Can Black People Grow Hair? is a book that will arm those in the Black community, who may feel like they don't have a voice, with the bravery that's needed to be heard. It will also provide those in the white community with a down-to-earth point of view on Black life that gives a clear call to action. It's message is meant to disarm what has been observed as the black communities' fear of being understood and to dismantle the white communities' need to feel absolved of any responsibility for the suppression of black people. It shares vulnerable stories about the lessons the author has learned as not only a black woman in primarily white spaces but as a light-skinned black woman who has experienced her own privileges that are hard for some within the black, and white, communities to admit exist. With grace, empathy, and candor, each chapter dives into topics that are meant to inspire introspection on all sides. Can Black People Grow Hair? will require that both black and white people ask themselves some tough questions that will challenge whether the way they've always thought is the ONLY way to think. The author wants people to explore beyond their comfort zones when it comes to their biases, assumptions, and protective behaviors in an effort to build a bridge between people groups that have generally tried to avoid each other in order to circumvent differences.

Andrea Krystal is an unapologetic late bloomer and chronic snooze button hitter, who can usually be found barefoot and curled up in a chair somewhere, drinking the now room temperature tea that she's reheated probably a dozen times already. She didn't dream of writing a book one day and she never fantasized of fame. What she did dream of was being a part of something that would make others feel more understood. To help people feel more connected with one another and to in many ways help herself heal from the brokenness of her own sense of feeling misunderstood in the world. Andrea loves thrifting, motivating women to become interested in themselves again, and otherwise spends far too much money on plants. She lives in Michigan, close to the family and friends she loves, and with the plants she spends all her money on.
