Campervan Capers: Have you turned the water on?

Overview

A DREAM COME TRUE? In 2021, Debra's dream of owning a campervan came true, but has it been a smooth journey? WHY THE SUBTITLE? ""We can't get the toilet to flush. We've filled the fresh water tank and cleaned the fuses, but can't get it to work."" ""Have you turned the water on?"" Steve, the laughing salesman, asked. Travel through the book with Debra to discover whether her dream has become a reality. Does campervan life meet her expectations? Has Mr M, the camping-hater, learned to love campervan life? What does Beatrix, their Border Collie, think? Along with helpful information for would-be campervanners, Debra also shares personal experiences, places she visited, and her feelings along her journey to hopefully become a seasoned campervan woman. Is Debra becoming another lady in a van?

Author Information

Debra was born in Halifax and has always enjoyed cycling and walking in the stunning countryside. In her teens, she visited and fell in love with the Lake District, dreaming that she might one day live there. As a child, Debra lived opposite the famous chocolate factory, Rowntree Mackintosh, and soon developed a sweet tooth. Unsurprisingly, Debra's cycle rides and walks always involved chocolate, such as a Yorkie Bar, Toffee Crisp, or Quality Street. But Debra is also quite partial to Cadbury Dairy Milk.In 2005, Debra moved to Scotland, where she met and married Scotsman Jim and became Mrs Murphy.Debra still lives in Scotland with her husband and Border Collie, eating chocolate, walking, cycling, and writing. She continues to dream that one day, she might live in the Lake District.Find out more at https//mothermurphys.co.uk/ or follow Debra on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. A Fife-based freelance illustrator and origami tutor, self-proclaimed paper lover and cake enthusiast. I'm the creative sitting at The Ricketty Desk.I illustrate at events and conferences, regenerate text-heavy documents, and design infographic material. My work can be found in magazines, advertising, websites, products, novels and children's books. My focus is on bringing ideas to life and making information digestible, accessible, and interesting. People remember the wonder of storybooks when they see my designs and the ease of learning from. Businesses, organisations and authors come to me when they want to connect with thier audiences in a way thats inviting and personable. My designs are traditionally created by hand with ink and paper. These are then photographed and layered into composites using software on my computer. Each sketch is usually created from a minimum of 6 individual drawings. I take inspiration from vintage children's tales, pattern and classic typography and as a reflection of this my style is playful and fun. I'm a great fan of sketchy line and I like to keep that not so perfect look, (just like real life!) in my work.I regularly teach origami classes in museums, libraries, schools and community spaces to all ages and abilities across Scotland. You can learn more about my classes here.If you'd like to collaborate on a project or commission an illustration, drop me an email: the_ricketty_desk@hotmail.co.uk
