OverviewCalling. Challenge. Perseverance. Joy. This book relays the stories of fourteen women in ministry, who discuss their experiences firsthand. From struggle to delight, each woman shares openly about her call to ministry, her journey to ordination, and the ups and downs of her ministry service. The women featured in this book were ordained by Baptist churches in Atlantic Canada between 1976 and 2021. Some were the first women their churches ever ordained. They have served as pastors, missionaries, chaplains, denominational leaders, community ministers, and more. Their pioneering work has changed lives around the world through Christ, and their stories will impact readers as well. Meant to be read individually or with a small group, the book provides readers with discussion and reflection questions at the end of each chapter. Table of ContentsReviews""Deeply rooted in Atlantic Canadian Baptist life, Called to Serve brings to life voices that might otherwise have been forgotten. As a researcher of women in ministry in the United Kingdom, I was struck by familiar themes in experiences of calling, exclusion, and perseverance across our differing contexts. This book is both a creative work of theological reflection and a necessary, essential, and timely archive."" --Jane Day, Lecturer, Regent's Park College, University of Oxford ""Called to Serve matters because it challenges us to break the silence, confront our history, and learn from the lived experiences of faithful servants of God. It celebrates fourteen heroines of our faith community, who recount their journeys in ministry with honesty and vulnerability, inspiring hope and resilience. Guided by their example and courageous fortitude, readers will witness the enduring spirit that has shaped a generation and uplifted the body of Christ. This book is a timely tribute to their influential and transformative service."" --Lennett J. Anderson, Assistant Professor of Leadership and Racial Justice, Acadia Divinity College ""The journey towards full participation of women in ministry has been both arduous and joyful. Yet, what we celebrate remains fragile. These stories preserve the courage and calling of those women who walked challenging paths before us, reminding the church that faithfulness requires both gratitude for the past and vigilance for the future."" --Anna Robbins, President, Acadia Divinity College Author InformationHannah Hunt is an MDiv student at Acadia Divinity College, studying out of southern Alberta, where she lives with her husband Ben.
