California Sober: The Science of Recovery

Overview

A new comprehensive guide to recovery has not been written for the better part of a century. In the first truly revolutionary method of recovery in that time, California Sober guides the reader on the path to the same awakening that kept the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous free from his substance of choice for 36 years. Along the way, I lay out a clear path to recovery using the California Sober method, providing readers with a guide to these powerful techniques that they can follow in order to overcome addiction without the need for asceticism, and providing the tools needed to find true recovery from addiction and other conditions of the mind. In the 84 years since the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous was published, almost everything written on the subject of recovery has either borrowed from, referenced, or simply copied its steps. Every attempt at reproducing the author's success (including A.A. itself) fails due to the omission of one truth. The founder of A.A. was California Sober. It wasn't the 12 steps that saved Bill Wilson from the alcoholism that was ruining his life. He had yet to write his famous steps, steps that were carefully crafted to guide fellow addicts toward a spiritual awakening that he credited for his sobriety, a spiritual awakening that was brought on by a 50-hour psychedelic treatment. Wilson would later realize the true cause of that awakening when he returned to the California Sober method in 1957, bringing with him his wife, his secretary, his priest, and fellow alcoholics. Those seeking recovery have been crying out for a 21st-century program from someone who has been where they are and has come out on the other side, someone who can tell them how and why that program works. The best-selling book on quitting alcohol was written by an alcoholic who overcame his addiction, and that book fails to mention the true reason for the author's success. Artists Demi Lovato and Willie Nelson have recorded songs about their success with the California Sober methods. Millions of people are searching for and struggling to find a new path to recovery that actually works. Those people are looking for the California Sober method of recovery.

Testimonials The following section is composed of testimonials from California Sobers (CSs) that wanted to tell of their success. Last names have been omitted for privacy. Hey everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself. I joined the group a couple weeks ago. I have 5 years clean from meth, heroin, suboxone, and pills. I just smoke and in the past couple years have integrated some psychedelics occasionally as well. I've managed to go from homeless, hopeless, broke with a needle in my arm to having my own apartment and car and holding a job down for 5 years now even being Cali sober. Recovery is possible! I'm so glad I found this group because I don't feel like I fit in with NA or AA because I smoke but I still try to work on bettering myself every day. Anyway, that's a little about me. Thanks for letting me join the group. - Kayla M Hi new member here happy I found this group! In August I will be 3 years California sober after shooting heroin for 10 years. Cannabis and psychedelics have saved my life much love to all of you open-minded, strong, and beautiful creatures - Mandy K (A peek inside my brain) Hello Everyone My last drink was a little over 3 years ago. I initially quit cold turkey, but the withdrawals were pretty brutal to deal with. I began using CBD along with an antidepressant shortly after to help with anxiety, headaches, stomach issues, and sleep patterns. I immediately felt the difference and felt so well. Both gave me hope that I may be able to kick my nasty drinking habit and stay sober. Of course, you know the more you do something the more your tolerance goes up, so CBD products were not as effective for me anymore and around that time delta 8 (THC) really became popular in my city. Delta 8 was really beneficial for me and wasn't too intense to make me paranoid or any other negative side effects. Up until about 5 months ago I used D8 to help with everyday life- now I smoke mostly THCa flower. - Kaylee J Heck with it. I've been... Cali Sober... A bit over a year. I guess technically I use plant medicine, holistic things, spiritual path, etc. to not use my DOC (Drug of Choice), but my brain has been mean lately and thoughts are creeping in. I found that 12 step format kind of helps, and I've been working a fourth step kinda loosely... I found someone to help me through it that isn't NA or A.A., they definitely haven't been compatible, and I found more judgement than anything even though it seems that goes against the whole program? anyways... I'm here, I've not used for today, and I'm grateful... Thanks for reading. - Codi H I am EXTREMELY grateful to be Cali sober.. it has gotten me away from extreme opiate and amphetamine use, and what was shaping up to be alcohol addiction. I use what I need to manage chronic pain condition and severe mood disorder, and I have finally become a functioning adult and a great mom again. I don't go shooting money in my veins or up my nose or down a bottle, and I enjoy life again. I don't get high, I don't get drunk, and my son has his mother and my husband has his partner back after almost 15 years of addiction struggles. I may not be 'sober' but I'm clean of the mess and toxic habits surrounding addiction that tried killing me and damn near succeeded last year. Welcome. ❤️ - Codi H It worked for me, going on 3 years sober, - Charles M

Author Information

W. E. Simmons is an ethnobotanist and researcher from Spring Valley, New York. His introduction to psychedelic substances in the mid-1980s inspired his fascination with their potential for relieving alcohol and substance use disorders. He has spent more than 30 years researching the effects of psychedelics and other mind-altering substances, specifically in the context of addiction recovery. After moving to California in 2002, Simmons dedicated himself to developing a revolutionary method of recovery. With the help of the latest science and a network of recovering addicts, he carefully honed his work into the first truly unique guide to recovery from addiction (and many other conditions of the mind) in almost a century, one that has been successfully used by W. and countless others to finally overcome their struggles, the California Sober method of recovery. In addition to ethnobotany and the exploration of mind-altering substances, Simmons also authors works in philosophy and fiction. He is an addiction specialist, a medicinal botanist, an experienced psychonaut, and freedom fighter in the War on Drugs.
