OverviewThe fashion designer Susanne Kumper recognised the creative potential residing in the tension between the Islamic and Western worlds and built up a 'Faculty of Fashion' at Helwan University in Cairo. Since 1999, together with her students, she has been working on imaginative creations that appeal to the Western taste, as well as fashion that takes Islamic veiling requirements into account. This publication shows why outfits designed in the Arabic world are increasingly capturing the attention of the Western world. Impressive photo shoots, whether in Cairo or at the pyramids, show us the unusual creations against a breathtaking backdrop. The photographer Joerg Heieck shows us daily life in Cairo in a black-and-white photo gallery.
