Cage Of Iron satirises war films. Even the ship's cat is a shadowy figure of mystery. The action takes place in the command headquarters of the Royal Navy and the Kriegsmarine, but principally and violently on board U999. The adventures of U999 are portrayed with humour and drama, its protagonists unflinching in perilous situations, as she miraculously survives the war until the last day, when a happy ending turns to tragedy, illustrating the short span of heroism.
