Cactus Kid Rumble at the Rodeo

Overview

After mastering fire magic, Cactus Kid is well on his way to becoming a dirt magic pro, too. There are just a few tiny problems he's going to have to deal with first. We've got an unfortunate accident involving his bike and a rock giant who likes to crush things. Oh, and the magician who is supposed to teach him dirt magic? He's gone missing. Did we mention that there's an army of cute but evil baby spiders after him as well? Things aren't going as planned for Cactus Kid, can he find the magician he's looking for, master dirt magic, and save the day from rock giants and spiders?

In his second adventure Cactus must find a magician, master dirt magic and save the day from rock giants and spiders. -- Charlotte Eyre * The Bookseller - Children's October Previews * In this story, Cactus Kid is still trying to become a wizard, and he finds himself in a western rodeo setting with characters to help him on his quest. The illustrations in this second installment of the Cactus Kid graphic novel series are the standout quality in this book. There is a lot of color, with simple and entertaining drawings of characters with large, expressive eyes in the style of TokiDoki design. Readers who have not read the first installment will find that this book is a fine stand-alone story. Dialogue is sparse but accessible for younger graphic novel readers. The speech bubbles are clear and white with block font, which helps keep the illustrations and dialogue from overpowering each other. This story ends with ""to be continued"" and a promising peek at the third installment in this series. * Youth Services Book Review *
