He is the author of several books and dozens of essays, book chapters, journal articles, reviews, and encyclopedia entries. His teaching and research awards include a Guest Professorship at the University of Heidelberg in Germany, the Distinguished Chair in Humanities at the University of Vienna, and a Fulbright Professorship at the University of Cologne.
