Reviews

""But Dad, where's Mum is a beautifully illustrated picture book that explores the dynamics of parental roles and attachment. Through its gentle narrative and expressive artwork, it portrays a father caring for his child while the mother returns to work - an increasingly common and important theme in modern families. As a Social Worker specialising as an Infant-Parent Therapist, I consider this book a valuable resource. It reinforces that the bond between parent and child is not diminished by physical distance, and it gently conveys the message that parents continue to hold their children in mind even when they are apart. The story supports healthy attachment, secure relationships and emotional resilience, making it an excellent tool for helping children understand transitions and the power of connection. I wholeheartedly endorse But Dad, where's Mum for families, educators, and professionals working with young children. It is a warm, heartening, and inclusive story that celebrates love and connection in all its forms."" Annalise Nicholls Infant-Parent Therapist Social Worker

Author Information

Jessica Skye is an Adelaide-based nurse/midwife, veteran and mum who's work aims to foster wellbeing and happiness in modern families. From her professional experience, Jessica thought she could pre-empt the peaks and valleys of new motherhood and returning to work. Instead, she learnt that parenting is a marathon; it is formidable but the highs are extraordinary. Jessica receives perpetual inspiration from her toddler and she is raring to craft more, relevant and compassionate tales. But Dad, where's Mum? is her debut picture book, and she is thrilled to share it with young families. Annabelle Hale is an author and illustrator based in Melbourne. She lives with her husband, daughter, and an introverted black cat. She grew up travelling to the country each weekend with her family and loves spending time outdoors in nature, drawing inspiration from native plants and animals.Annabelle was previously a support worker for children with disabilities, and loved reading to her clients and seeing how the pictures would help them engage with the story.
