Overview

ABSTRACT The present study examined the role of job design and work- life balance in work performance, subjective well-being and turnover intention in coal mining sector of India. The coal mining sector of India is suffering from various challenges and threats; deploying appropriate job design to enhance work performance and retain employees are still one of major issues. Work-life balance of the employees is another challenge; better work and family balance enhances the subjective well-being of employees of retain them in the organizations. Today, organizations are increasingly adopting work- family programmes, such as flexible work engagements to control counterproductive behaviors of the employees. This study was aimed to investigate the relationship of job design and work life to subjective well-being, work-life balance and turnover intention among managers in coal mining sector. A total of 251 managers at coal India limited were surveyed with questionnaires that assessed the dimensions of the variables. The data was statistically analyzed to test the hypotheses. In first section, hypothesis were tested through Pearson's coefficient of correlation while in next section relative variance of the predictor was tested through stepwise hierarchical regression analysis with help of SPSS.20. Finding of the study provided support for the hypothesized relationships; they have important implications to develop better job design and work-life balance policies for better subjective well-being, enhanced work performance and lower turnover intention in coal mining sector. The study highlights the facts that most of the employees of coal mining sector were aware from role of better job analysis and work-life balance policies and indented to grow these to enhance efficient performance, healthy well-being and greater affiliation.
