OverviewLandforms are the bedrock upon which the sustenance of man depends. In Ghana, the greatest weight of the economy rests on agriculture, which ultimately depends on land. The northern savannah zone is particularly noted for crop production and livestock rearing. In the Wa West district of the Upper West region, about 59.2% of the people engage in farming as their major source of livelihood. Due to bushfire occurrences in the area, this basic source of livelihood for the people is seriously threatened as the land is fast-degrading and softly sinking the people into poverty. The study examines the effects of bushfires on food crop production in Wa West district. It further examines the causes of bushfires, the effects of bushfires, and measures to prevent the occurrence of bushfires.
