""Which style should we choose for our plans?"" Today, a definitve answer to this question can no longer be given: the architect has to find new solutions each time. The work of the Basel architectural office Burgin Nissen Wentzlaff is characertized by a search for an unbiased approach to architecture that incorporated sources from different fields of interest. It is to this statement by the company that results in their first monograph being so unusual. Whereas the buildings and projects of the past 12 years are documented on the right pages in the book, the left pages with texts, illustrations, pictures and the infringing questions demonstrate the tasks and challenges characteristic for the work of the office. The frictions and contradictions between these ""two-sides"" of the practice are not oppressed or censored but are consciously unfolded. The resultant book oscillates between idea and building, reality and concept, offering a stimulating insight into the workshop of this unique architectural office.
