OverviewJo Connors has just been recruited by Jaymie Brzezinski, an eccentric rock musician who claims to have been born at the moment of the writer Charles Bukowski's death. It's autumn of 2019, and the mad reincarnated poet is assembling an indie band made up of his panic-prone twin brother, coolheaded younger sibling, and Jo-a formidable but perpetually stoned guitar goddess. They have only just arrived at their first show when a supernatural murder shocks the band, causing them to question whether being part of the local scene is worth the peril. In between confronting a monstrous killer, spending a stint in a demonic ""arts collective"" (cult), and navigating a calamitous clone misunderstanding, the four bandmates encounter real-life struggles, including anxiety disorders, gender identity exploration, inequality in the music scene, low-quality pet therapy, and finding belonging on the road amidst the weird. Table of ContentsReviews""A strong, character driven book, and all of the Bukowskis (and co.) are so weird, wild, quirky and wonderful that I can't wait to see where they all go next."" - S.M. Beiko, author of THE STARS OF MOUNT QUIXX ""A.W. Glen, like a deft composer, writes wonderfully. There is a speed and exuberant thrust in the novel's playful plot, in the back-and-forth rapidity of its dialogue, and in the characters themselves. ... Never trust weirdo music bloggers, but certainly go read Bukowski's Broken Family Band."" - Steve Schmolaris, author of BAD GARDENING ADVICE: WINNIPEG MUSIC REVIEWS FROM ARTIST REDACTED TO ZRADA ""'So what genre are you anyway?' A.W. Glen's debut is a sharp-witted skewering of the Winnipeg underground music scene against the backdrop of a spooky murder mystery. It's a hilarious and enjoyable mix of Hard Times meets X-Files, with horrific murders and supernatural curveballs befalling a struggling band just trying to get a good paying gig."" - Kent Davies, CKUW 95.9 FM ""Gripping. A page-turner. Six thumbs up (at least)."" - Sam Thompson, host of Witchpolice Radio Author InformationTab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
