Building The Balanced Horse: Training Strategies for Injury Prevention

Overview

As physiotherapists, we see many horses experiencing pain and injury that could have been prevented. Their owners aren't neglectful (most are deeply committed to their horse's wellbeing), but simply lacked the knowledge to recognise the subtle signs that something wasn't quite right. This book bridges that gap. Drawing on our years of experience in human/equine physiotherapy and sports science, we provide a clear framework for understanding exercise prescription and training. You'll learn how to structure programs that reduce the risk of injury, build strength and resilience, and support long-term soundness and performance. Through practical examples and case studies, we share how to: recognise and prevent overuse injuries manage training loads and recovery effectively assess and monitor your horse's soundness and performance You will also gain a deep understanding of anatomy and the effects of different exercises, surfaces, speed and the influence of the rider. QR codes to view videos of all the exercises described are provided throughout the book. We don't offer you a ""one-size-fits-all"" plan. This 160 page book provides you with the skills to tailor exercise and training to your horse's individual needs so that you can make confident, informed decisions that truly benefit their wellbeing.

Reviews

""Building the Balanced Horse: Training Strategies for Injury Prevention is very clear and well-structured. I think all riders should have it as a resource."" - Eva Tasic, KiroVet "" I have found Equimotion's new book, ""Building the Balanced Horse"" to be an extremely helpful tool in learning how to train our horses to make them the happiest and healthiest versions of themselves. It's been so interesting to think about horse training from more of a physiological perspective and to consider not overtraining muscles. Significant injuries are so common and so hard for both horses and owners so anything I can do to prevent that I really value and this book has definitely been a great tool in injury prevention. I would highly recommend to any horse owner or anyone working in the industry."" - Claire Minetti
