Building Environments: Perspectives in Vernacular Architecture, Volume X, edited by Kenneth A. Breisch and Alison K. Hoagland, is a collection of the best papers presented at recent annual meetings of the Vernacular Architecture Forum.The editors assert that there is no single correct avenue to exploring our built environment. Kenneth A. Breisch is a professor in the Department of History and Theory, Southern California Institute of Architecture. He is the author of Henry Hobson Richardson and the Small Public Library in America, and his essays have appeared in several books, including Modern Architecture in America and Fountains.Alison K. Hoagland is associate professor of history and historic preservation at Michigan Technological University. Her most recent book is Army Architecture in the West: Forts Laramie, Bridger, and D. A. Russell, 1849-1912.Breisch and Hoagland are co-editors of Constructing Image, Identity, and Place, also in the Perspectives in Vernacular Architecture series.
