Reviews

One of the most attractive features of the work is how the poem follows the story so closely that it enables one to recall the entire experience from memory by reading each line... The 25 or so pages of pictures are quite remarkable. It is even sometimes impossible to tell which are the paintings done by the author, and which are the pictures taken with her camera. Whether painted or photographed, they are compellingly selected and arranged, and supplement the story to the point where the reader feels he is in the desert welcoming Buddy each morning. - K. B., Math teacher This is a book worthy of displaying on the coffee table and will be one you want to save as a keepsake for your children's children! Beautiful in every way! - K. H., Biology teacher .. . a superior children's nonfiction offering ... most highly recommended. - J. Magnus, Reader's Favorite This book was a delight to read and at the same time drink in her artistry. Much like graphic novels the reader will use both sides of the brain, reading and gleaning more information from the paintings and photos. This would be a tremendous addition to any library. - C. K., Retired librarian This is one of those books that you can enjoy reading over and over with a child. There are many lessons embedded in the story, so the child can learn something new with each reading. In addition to be very informative about desert tortoises, it is a wonderful story of caring and doing what is best for someone else. The book also showcases many talents of the author - writing prose and poetry and illustrating with photography and painting - J.W.
