Overview

Working his way round the world young Joe Coyle discovers that he is on another voyage of discovery, the search for meaning in life. During a return voyage across the vast Pacific Ocean he chances to read Plato's 3,000 year old examination of the nature of love: the 'Symposium'. A new world opens before him. He discovers divine love,and then a heartbreaking love for a beautiful woman. What is he to do? Choose love of God in monastic life or the love of the most beautiful woman he has ever seen? Consumed by a desire for perfection he makes the hard decision to devote his life totally to the God of love, in service to other people. He joins the monastic Order of Friars Preachers in the West Country of England, determined to take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.
