Broadway Purr-formers vs. The Rat King

Overview

Broadway Purr-formers vs. The Rat King Short Summar ""Broadway Purr-formers vs. The Rat King"" In December, Broadway feels alive. Steam rises from subway grates, bright signs blink in the cold, and Christmas songs float through the streets. The sidewalks shine after fresh snow, and everyone hurries like the city is late for a show. On West Forty-Fourth Street, the Renaissance Lyric theater glows with holiday lights. Posters sparkle, the orchestra tunes up, and the audience walks in smiling, ready to believe in magic. But above the chandeliers and velvet seats, hidden from most eyes, there is a catwalk. That is where Luna lives. Luna is a black cat with a small white mark on her throat and amber eyes like old stage lights. She wasn't brought in as a pet. She was born inside the theater, behind the stage wall, where warm dust, old velvet, and music meet. She moves quietly, like a dancer, and listens closely, as if sound can hold the world together. Tonight is a big night because the theater is finally reopening after a long time. There were renovations, money problems, and rumors the place might close forever. Backstage is full of chaos: fake snow on tables, shiny costumes everywhere, and a 17-year-old stagehand named Maya running fast with her clipboard. Maya is tired but determined. She talks to the building like it's alive and begs it not to fail. Because the lights keep flickering. The marquee stutters. Dressing-room mirrors blink off. Even the exit sign looks weak and sickly. People blame old wires, low budgets, or even ghosts. But Luna knows the real problem. She can smell it: rats-strong, bold rats moving in organized waves under the floorboards. They chew decorations, steal ribbon, and watch from the darkness. Among the alley cats, there is a terrifying rumor: a Rat King, made from hunger and shadows, wearing a crown. Luna feels his presence like pressure in her head. When the lights shake again, a cold whisper seems to move through the vents: ""No more songs."" Then Jasper appears-an orange tomcat with a notched ear, proud and serious like a stage manager. He leads the hidden cat crew inside the theater. Jasper and Luna understand that the Rat King loves when humans only believe what they can see. The show begins, the audience claps, and the music starts. Then-snap-half the footlights die. Fear spreads. Somewhere beneath the stage, something laughs. And Luna and Jasper make a choice: if darkness tries to steal Broadway's voice, they will fight back-and steal the show instead.
