FREIMAN, PhD, is the former deputy director of the Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. He is now President of Freiman Consulting. Dr. Freiman has authored over 200 papers on brittle fracture and was the first chairman of the ASTM International Subcommittee addressing this topic. He is a Fellow and Distinguished Life Member of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS). JOHN J. MECHOLKSY Jr., PhD, is Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Florida. He has published over 200 technical articles in the area of fracture analysis of brittle materials. He is a Fellow of ACerS and served on their board of directors from 2006 to 2009.
