OverviewBritish militaria, in particular officer's peak caps, have been largely overshadowed by the interest surrounding Third Reich military collectibles. To the untrained eye one British cap may appear much like another, however this area of collecting is highly specific and can be quite complex. This encyclopedic introduction to British officer's peak caps clarifies important details such as branch and rank distinction, and identification to a particular period. The author also explores the caps' history, giving key introduction and alteration dates, as well as a long list of known outfitters. With over 250 photographs, illustrations and original period imagery, you will observe the sometimes subtle differences, characteristics and changes in the caps' development. This essential guide also explores the interconnected and relevant subject of Commonwealth and post-war caps, while also giving useful information on care and display. AUTHOR: Olivier Dorrell was born and educated in Worcestershire, England, before studying industrial design. Table of ContentsReviewsAs a military history enthusiast and re-enactor, I seek high quality publications on various aspects of uniforms and insignia. Peaked caps are an essential part of an officers (including Warrant Officers) dress so it is important to get the headwear aspect correct. This excellent publication significantly helps in this aspect. It is the best book on British Officers Peaked Caps that I am aware of and it is essential reading for any person with an interest in this headwear. It deals with all three branches of the services and some other Government branches such as Customs and Excise. There is an interesting chapter on how the caps are designed and there are many superb comments on identifying an original World War 2 cap from modern day ones. This book gives an outstanding treatment of this topic and I am so pleased that I have been able to obtain a copy. It is a great treasure trove of information on this topic and is definitely the reference book to get. The author deserves a massive well done and thanks for preparing this exceptional book. - Dr Stuart C Blank, www.MilitaryArchiveResearch.com July 2018 Author InformationOlivier Dorrell was born and educated in Worcestershire, England, before studying industrial design.
