Janice Helland is Professor of Art History and Women's Studies, and Queen's National Scholar at Queen's University, Kingston, Canada. She is the author of The Studios of Frances and Margaret Macdonald (1996) and Professional Women Painters in Nineteenth-Century Scotland: Commitment, Friendship, Pleasure (2000) as well as a number of journal articles and book chapters and co-editor of Women and the Decorative Arts: The Gender of Ornament (2002), Local/Global: Women Artists in the Nineteenth Century (2006), Craft, Space and Interior Design, 1855-2005 (2008).
