Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationMercedes Deziel-Hupe practised yoga for a few years before discovering its healing power in 2012 as a support to overcoming burnout and depression. Reiki helped Mercedes free herself from anxiety and assist her mother as she was battling cancer. Reiki, yoga, and meditation together empowered her as she healed from medical conditions including hypothyroidism and a pre-diabetic condition, and heal from the grief of loss and later, from a traumatic birth experience. Curious to reconnect with her indigenous heritage, Mercedes sought counsel and guidance from Elders and Wisdom Keepers of various nations. At 27, she received her spirit name, Bright Star Woman, which confirmed her path as a healer and teacher. The following year, the same Cree Elder who named her recognized her as Wolf Clan. Mercedes is a holistic life and wellness coach. She is a registered yoga and meditation teacher with the Yoga Alliance, an Usui and Blue Star Reiki master teacher, and a keeper of indigenous rites. She is an accredited life coach with the CTAA, EFT, NLP and Hypnotherapy practitioner, holistic nutritionist, and hand reflexologist. In addition, she holds a bachelor's degree in Communications and Philosophy from the University of Ottawa. Early in her career, Mercedes was a journalist and freelance writer, who was published through a daily newspaper (Le Droit) and several other university publications (Tabaret Magazine, uOttawa Gazette, University Affairs) and for employers, including Health Standards Organization and Accreditation Canada in 2019. Mercedes is currently writing her next wellness book. She lives in the National Capital Region with her husband, children, and cat, where she enjoys reading, dancing, watercolour painting, eating delicious whole foods, and stand-up paddling on flatwater.
