Overview

Brielle the Brave is a children's book about a superhero who has food allergies. Throughout the book, Brielle shares many of her experiences living with several food allergies while in elementary school. This includes Brielle carrying her epinephrine auto-injector everywhere, understanding the importance of self-advocacy, wearing teal for food allergy awareness, and eating safe treats. A key aspect of the Brielle the Brave book is the positive affirmations included to empower children-especially children with food allergies-in their everyday challenges. Referring to the readers as superheroes, Brielle reminds everyone during the book that they are brave, strong, fearless, and courageous. Brielle empowers children with food allergies and educates their friends about the challenges children with food allergies face. Young children around the ages of three to eight-years-old will enjoy learning from Brielle's story. Ultimately, the hope is that Brielle the Brave allows children with food allergies to see themselves in a book character, helps children understand that everyone endures different challenges, and empowers children so they know that they can do anything!

Author Information

Noelle E.P. Nelson loved writing Brielle the Brave's story throughout high school and she's so excited to share it with the world! Like Brielle, Noelle also has life-threatening food allergies. She was not only inspired by her own experiences but also the stories of food allergy superheroes she's met while spreading allergy awareness. Noelle loves teaching kids about food allergies in schools, leading educational games in her virtual food allergy camp, and advocating to make the world safer for people with food allergies! She hopes Brielle the Brave reminds everyone that they are brave, strong, fearless, and courageous! Victoria Y. Ayala is an adventurous person who loves to try everything. When she's not in school learning to become a scientist, she is out on stage, telling stories to large crowds through her singing and acting. But the thing she loves most of all is when she gets to sit down and create worlds of pure wonder through her art. With her trusty pencil in hand, Victoria was able to use her creativity to bring Brielle and her world to life in this very book.
