Bridges: Transforming Communities Together

Overview

Occasionally, we come across a true story that seems so improbable that it falls under the heading of a popular saying, you can't make this stuff up! From a childhood in Appalachian poverty to becoming an internationally recognized champion for marginalized people, her life will both inspire and challenge the reader. Kathy's indomitable faith in Jesus Christ and unshaken conviction in the love of God and the biblical theology of equality, has guided her from impoverished communities in Dallas to the sweltering cities of Nigeria. Read the accounts where transformation replaced hopelessness and despair in neighborhoods and cities where systems of oppression dominated for generations. At a time in history where connectivity is more available than ever before, our world is fractured almost beyond recognition. Even within the Christian faith, the simple instruction of Jesus to ""love one another as I have loved you"" has diminished in frightening ways. The B.R.I.D.G.E. theological framework, Dudley's brilliant presentation in the second half of this book, is a gift to anyone who aspires to be an agent of love and reconciliation in both a broken world and a splintered Christian fellowship. Let her words encourage us all to be people who are doers of the word, not just hearers, tearing down the walls that divide, and building bridges of trust, faith, and unity.

Reviews

This elegantly written and theologically thoughtful book is so important for these times of chaos and crisis. - Dr. J. Alfred Smith Sr. Pastor, Allen Temple Baptist Church Professor Emeritus, Berkeley School of Theology Author of On the Jericho Road An elegant and vulnerable autobiography, Dudley traces God's presence in the poverty of her childhood to her calling as a prophet bridge-builder. - Mimi Haddad, PhD, President of CBE International Co-Author of Is Women's Equality a Biblical Idea? Bridges: Transforming Communities Together is a powerful journey through Kathy Dudley's fascinating life. Her compelling work takes shape, anchored in faith, family, and community. - Dr. Derrick Harkins Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, HUD, Contributing Author of The Audacity of Faith Dr. Kathy Dudley's life and ministry are the quintessential example of a long obedience in the same direction. In Bridges, Dr. Dudley beautifully and transparently articulates, then seamlessly weaves together compelling stories of discovery, identity formation, and radical reconciliation (her own powerful and deeply personal journey notwithstanding). - Rev. Cecilia Williams, PhD, President and CEO, CCDA Dr Kathy Dudley's humble beginnings were just the catalyst God needed to begin a process that would result in nothing short of global transformation. - Rev. Keith Stewart, Senior Pastor, Springcreek Church Author of We Were Wrong Kathy Dudley's Bridges tells an important story. It is not mere biography; it is witness and testimony about how God shows beauty amid the messiness of life. I celebrate this story as a gift in these confusing times to help us see how to love, be loved, and stand with the people we love. - Dr. Kwesi R. Kamau, Senior Pastor, Impact Church Author of A Better Days and A Passion For Prayer Bridges: Transforming Communities Together, testifies of Kathy's uncensored obedience to the heavenly vision about the BRIDGE paradigm, a relational framework for rallying individuals and groups for collaborative efforts towards achieving societal transformation. The author challenges you to think anew and embrace a new model for missions that is couched in the theology of equality that allows people to contribute from their areas of strength. - Dr. Cosmas Ilechukwu, General Overseer, Charismatic Renewal Ministries Author of The Church Of His Vision
