Overview

Breakthroughs in Smart City Implementation should give answers on a wide variety of present social, political and technological problems. Green and long-lasting solutions are needed in coming 10 years and beyond on areas as green and long lasting solutions for improving air quality, quality of life of residents in cities, traffic congestions and many more.Two Conasense branches, established in China and in India, report in six book chapters on initiatives needed to overcome the obvious shortcomings at present. Three more chapters complete this fifth Conasense book: an introductory chapter concerning Smart City from Conasense perspective, a chapter showing that not technology but the people in the cities are most important and a chapter on recent results and prospects of “Human in the Loop” in smart vehicular systems.

Prof. Dr. ir. Leo P. Ligthart was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on September 15, 1946. He received an Engineer's degree (cum laude) and a Doctor of Technology degree from Delft University of Technology. He is Fellow of IET and IEEE and Academician of the Russian Academy of Transport. He received Honorary Doctorates at MSTUCA in Moscow, Tomsk State University, and MTA Romania. Since 1988, he held a chair on Microwave transmission, remote sensing, radar and positioning and navigation at Delft University of Technology. He supervised over 50 Ph.Ds. He founded the International Research Centre for Telecommunications and Radar (IRCTR) at Delft University. He is a founding member of the EuMA, chaired the first EuMW in 1998, and initiated the EuRAD conference in 2004. Currently, he is emeritus professor of Delft University, guest professor at Universities in Indonesia and China, Chairman of CONASENSE, Member BoG of IEEE-AESS. His areas of specialization include antennas and propagation, radar and remote sensing, satellite, mobile, and radio communications. He gives various courses on radar, remote sensing, and antennas. He has published over 600 papers, various book chapters, 4 Patents and 6 books. Prof. Dr. Ramjee Prasad is a Professor of Future Technologies for Business Ecosystem Innovation (FT4BI) in the Department of Business Development and Technology, Aarhus University, Denmark. He is the Founder President of the CTIF Global Capsule (CGC). He is also the Founder Chairman of the Global ICT Standardisation Forum for India, established in 2009. GISFI has the purpose of increasing of the collaboration between European, Indian, Japanese, North-American and other worldwide standardization activities in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and related application areas. He has been honored by the University of Rome ""Tor Vergata"", Italy as a Distinguished Professor of the Department of Clinical Sciences and Translational Medicine on March 15, 2016. He is Honorary Professor of University of Cape Town, South Africa, and University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He has received Ridderkorset af Dannebrogordenen (Knight of the Dannebrog) in 2010 from the Danish Queen for the internationalization of top-class telecommunication research and education. He has received several international awards such as: IEEE Communi- cations Society Wireless Communications Technical Committee Recognition Award in 2003 for making contribution in the field of ""Personal, Wireless and Mobile Systems and Networks"", Telenor's Research Award in 2005 for impressive merits, both academic and organizational within the field of wireless and personal communication, 2014 IEEE AESS Outstanding Orga- nizational Leadership Award for: ""Organizational Leadership in developing and globalizing the CTIF (Center for TeleInFrastruktur) Research Network"", and so on. He has been Project Coordinator of several EC projects namely, MAGNET, MAGNET Beyond, eWALL and so on. He has published more than 30 books, 1000 plus journal and conference publications, more than 15 patents, over 100 Ph.D. Graduates and larger number of Masters (over 250). Several of his students are today worldwide telecommunication leaders themselves.
