Breaking My Silence: Memoir of a Nursing Sister

Overview

Mary Ooi's life has been defined by survival. Raised in wartime Malaysia in a home where abuse was routine and love was absent, she found her first taste of freedom in nursing-a career that promised independence and dignity. After a murder and false trial shattered her family, she trained in England, hoping for a fresh start. But returning to Malaysia, marriage trapped her in a new kind of violence: years of manipulation, betrayal, and near-fatal threats. Spanning the shadows of Japanese-occupied Malaysia to an unchosen migration to Canada, Breaking My Silence is the unforgettable story of a woman who refused to be erased. It is a testament to courage, resilience, and the power of finally telling the truth after a lifetime of being silenced.
