Overview

The Global Standard for Consumer Products (Issue 2a) sets out the requirements for the supply of safe and legal consumer products of consistent quality. The products may be retailer-own label or branded or be for use by other organisations. The scope of the Global Standard for Consumer Products (Issue 2a) covers the vast majority of non-food products in the global marketplace including everything from formulated products such as shampoos and paints to fabricated items like televisions and toys. The Standard identifies how to determine the Product Group into which a product should be placed, depending on the level of risk and defines audit requirements for product risk management, the management system, site standards, product control, process control and personnel. Issue 2a is an update of the previous version (Issue 2) of the Consumer Products Standard. It has been published to reflect more closely the international nature of consumer products and to update some of the worked examples in the light of updated legislation and greater experience in the assessment of products and to allow minor corrections to the text. There have not been any changes to the definitions of product groups or the audit requirements. Download a summary of the changes between Issue 2 and Issue 2a. This title provides a single generic standard and protocol that allows an audit by an accredited, BRC approved third-party certification body. Single verification commissioned by the supplier, in line with an agreed audit frequency, will allow suppliers to report upon their status to their customers and other organisations of their choosing. The Standard addresses a key part of the quality assurance process and helps suppliers and retailers demonstrate that they have taken steps to ensure product safety.
