Author Information

Dr. Tony “Doc” Carlton, DHSc, is a Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Navy Corpsman veteran, rehabilitation coach, and scholar. He earned his Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) from PennWest University, where he developed the Building Resilience and Advancing Veteran Empowerment (BRAVE) Theory as part of his veteran transition and resilience research. He founded the Mindfully Tactical Foundation, which delivers programs such as the WELL Program (Warrior Empowerment, Lifestyle, and Leadership) and the PATH Initiative (Preparing, Advancing, Transitioning Heroes) to support veterans in higher education and civilian life. Beyond academia and nonprofit work, Carlton is a director of rehabilitation and performance science in professional hockey and continues to mentor veterans navigating education, career, and identity after service. His work bridges evidence-based research with lived experience, bringing forward practical, adaptable, and grounded frameworks for the reality of transition. He lives in North Carolina with his wife, stepdaughter, and their animals.
