Bowing to the Past is a three part series. Book One is set in the UK in 1945 and 1946. Book Two covers 1965 and 1966 set in the UK, Canada and Japan. December 1946, 10 year old Tommy Richards is approached by a gaunt, unsmiling stranger when he stands alone carol singing. The stranger is his father, thought dead whilst a prisoner of the Japanese. Father and son spend almost a year trying to understand each other while Jim Richards adjusts to a limited life within the four walls of his home, with his beloved wife, June. The family are challenged when Jim is suspected of murdering another ex-POW whose body is found in the woods. Confused by the change to his life, as Tommy draws closer to his father, his hatred of the Japanese is lodged in his brain. Twenty years later, Tom Richards is a mature Oxford graduate determined to follow technological advancements. He is shocked when he is sent to Japan to learn robotic development. He falls in love with Ellie whose family were also caught up in the fall of Singapore. Knowing that he must reject his hatred for an entire nation, Tom is determined to find out about his father's experiences and who murdered the stranger in the woods. But will he be too late?
