Overview

Farley Mowat's youth was charmed and hilarious, and unbelievably free in its access to unspoiled nature through bird-banding expeditions and overnight outings in the dead of winter. The author writes of sleeping in haystacks for survival, and other adventures, with equal shares of Booth Tarkington and Jack London. He also brings back Mutt, the famous hero-dog of his classic The Dog Who Wouldn't Be, and his pet owl Wol, hero of Owls in the Family. The tale of an outrageous and clever boy, Born Naked takes its place as the foundation of the Farley Mowat canon.

Author Information

Farley Mowat was born in Belleville, Ontario, in 1921. He began writing upon his return from serving in World War II, and has since written fourty-four books. He spent much of his youth in Saskatoon, and has lived in Ontario, Cape Breton, and Newfoundland, while traveling frequently to Canada's far north. Throughout, Mowat has remained a determined environmentalist, despairing at the ceaseless work of human cruelty. Yet his ability to capture the tragic comedy of human life on earth has made him a national treasure in Canada, and a beloved storyteller to readers around the world. His internationally celebrated books include People of the Deer, The Dog Who Wouldn't Be, A Whale for the Killing, and The Boat Who Wouldn't Float. Dean Gallagher has been narrating audiobooks for over a decade, with over fifty books spanning multiple genres. He has bachelor's degrees in both theater and communications, as well as over thirty years of stage experience in a wide array of roles. His lifelong love of reading and performing, combined with a boundless curiosity, resulted in an active career as a narrator and actor. Dean and his wife, Rebecca, both work as narrators in Chicagoland.
