Book One Review and Study Guide Student Edition

Overview

First in the Historical Adventure series: Benny rebels on the journey away from his beloved life in the city and the influence of the university community where his dead father taught. Benny quickly learns that his traveling companion John Clancy carries disguises, a long, sharp knife, and too many secrets to make him a safe traveling companion. Benny can't shake the Scripture's promise that God ""will never leave thee nor forsake thee.""A card-playing, knife-throwing bank robber, a savage black stallion, and a ""cougar evangelist"" all play a part in Benny's journey into acceptance of God's will when it isn't at all humanly sensible or safe. Benny faces an implacable bully and finds an unlikely friendship and a long-lost treasure through his dead father.

Reviews

It's great to read a good book appropriate for young readers that has great storytelling with out being about witches, magic, ghost, goblins or zombies. How refreshing! I think it's a wonderful story for any middle school aged child, but I think a lot of adults would like it too. Great for any fan of the Bible, and I appreciated the truths presented by Findley. I'll certainly plan to continue on in the story! Findley has done her job. My younger children, especially, loved the ending... they laughed, clapped, bounced (on Mom and Dad's bed, our favorite read-aloud place), and thanked me for reading it to them. Thank you, Mrs. Findley! We are looking forward to reading the next two titles in the series. Mary C. Findley's novel BENNY AND THE BANK ROBBER is a story any age can thoroughly enjoy. You'll get totally involved in the life of ten-year-old Benny Richardson and the events God allows in his young life, much of which includes an unlikely traveling companion from Pennsylvania to Missouri: a man who has robbed a bank. his is an adventure-filled tale with n'ary a dull moment. You'll be amazed at Benny's maturity and cry with him at his vulnerability, but there are a lot of good lessons to be learned along the way, and you won't be upset with the ending. This is great Christian historical fiction.

Author Information

They say write what you know. Mary C. Findley has poured her real life into her writing -- From the cover designs inspired by her lifelong art studies to the love of pets and country life that worm their way into her historicals. The never-say-die heroes in her twenty-some fiction works are inspired by her husband, a crazy smart man with whom she co-writes science and history-based nonfiction. These works were jump-started by a deep awareness of the dangers in our future if we don't understand ideological enemies rooted in the past. She's a strong believer in helping others and also has books about publishing advice and the need to have strong standards in reading and writing. She has traveled internationally and around the lower 48 and Canada multiple times. Anecdotes from her small town life, college experiences, European, Canadian, and south-of-the border travels, as well as adventures as shotgun rider in a tractor trailer fill her contemporary works. She has also donned the cloak of alt-Victorian adventuress as Sophronia Belle Lyon, steampunk writer with her own League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (and ladies) from the great 1800s novelists. In all her works you will find faith, family, friendship and fulfilling stories. Do come have a look!
