OverviewThis book is written as a series of short daily entries. A counting down of the days of a year's service in Vietnam. I got caught up in the voice. A voice that is trying to make sense of the no sense of war by a numbering of the days. A voice that breaks down the components of war by categorising them. There were military terms I didn't understand but that was unimportant. Most entries are half a page to a page long. There are rhyming poems and letters scattered within the prose poems, and these unexpected shifts of form gave the writing an extra edge and interest. The writing is at times newspaper matter-of-fact, but at other times there is an undercurrent of sorrow or anger.
