Bloody Fields of Flowers

Overview

Bloody Fields of Flowers is a captivating story about family, identity, and perseverance. Mersida Bijelic's memoir details her picturesque childhood in the former Yugoslavia and the horrors of war after its violent dissolution. In 1992, when the nation broke into six independent countries, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, nine-year-old Mersida was exposed to political strife, religious persecution, and finally an onslaught of unimaginable violence. With her family by her side and her unwavering faith, Mersida found the strength to persevere through the turmoil and finally build a new life in the United States. Her eye-opening memories will leave you questioning the devastating effects of social and political divisions and, ultimately, understanding how an individual can still embrace compassion
