OverviewBlood and Soil: The Fall of Poland & The Battle of France, the second book in The Protocols series, which chronicles authoritarianism in the modern era. Part One is set against the German and Soviet invasion and partition of Poland, and the imposition of the Nazis' New Order. It begins a week after the Nazis & Reds had divided Europe into two halves -- a result of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Non-Aggression Pact of August 23, 1939. Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union, agreed to allow Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Third Reich, to do what he willed in the west in exchange for allowing him to do as he desired in the east. Though all the major events of this period are recorded, the book's focus is the lives of ordinary people -- like Dr. Zygmunt Klukowski in Szczebrzeszyn, Poland, chronicling the effects of the New Order on the lives of Polish citizens; and Victor Klemperer and his wife Eva, forced to live in a Jews' House in Dresden, Germany. Like all the books in the series, Blood and Soil: The Fall of Poland & The Battle of France is composed of excerpts taken from diaries, memoirs, situation reports, news and feature articles, histories, speeches, radio transcripts, and other historical documents selected not only for their ability to illustrate the past, but for their relevance in terms of the times in which we live.
