OverviewIn 52 short chapters, Bless–ed shows us the gifts God has given us, and how we can share them with our friends When we think about blessings, we often think about material gifts that God has provided. These are indeed things to be grateful for, but these are things that God has given to all people – what are the additional blessings we receive because we are his? Have you given thought to the knowledge that you have a forgiven past, a promising present and a certain, glorious future? Have you thanked God for giving you a proper view of health, balanced emotions and a fearless intellectual life? With one chapter for every week of the year, Larry Dixon looks at a different blessing that we have in our Christian life. He explains the blessing, gives Bible passages to examine, encourages us to take action with three action points, and also provides a guide for praying for unsaved friends to also know this blessing. Table of ContentsReviewsThis book is very helpful for Christians who like to please God in their daily activities - especially for those who have the burden to reach their lost friends. We have studied the Bless-ed with our Monday Bible school students and it was very sharpening their understanding. I will recommend this book to Christians who love to serve Christ, especially to my Ethiopian Christian believers, to read it and benefit from it. -- Mulugeta Ashagre Endeshaw (East African Director of T-NET International, Former General Secretary, Ethiopian Christian Brethren Church) Dr. Larry Dixon is the most actively evangelistic theologian that I know. He is relentless in seeking non-Christian friends through tennis, chess, correspondence, and whoever he bumps into in order to share the good news of the Gospel. Larry has written this book in order to encourage Christians to truly know what they have in Christ, as a way of life, and as discussion starters with their non-Christian friends. Using profound quotes, gentle humor, extensive biblical passages, along with recommended readings and suggestions for prayer, these readings will not only be a strong reminder of what we have, but if lived out will make your Christianity contagious to those without Christ. The 52 chapters cover such topics as Joy, Forgiveness, Heaven, Sexuality, and even How to Grow Old. They will not only make for inspiring reading and studying but good sermon material as well. -- Allan McKechnie (Professor Emeritus Columbia International University, Columbia, South Carolina) If you're a believer, it's hard not to be arrogant. I have a t-shirt that reads on the front, Jesus likes me more than he likes you. On the back it reads: About 10% more. In this book, Bless-ed! 52 Weekly Blessings You Have as a Believer-and How to Help Your Lost Friends Find Theirs, Larry Dixon, in a refreshing, clear and wonderful way, reminds us about how loved, accepted and fortunate we are. Then you have to deal with the arrogance. That's doable because, as Dr. Dixon says, it's all God and His grace and mercy. This book will give you joy in your faith and, at the same time, give you a passion to see others get the t-shirt and to join you in the dance. -- Steve Brown (Founder and Bible Teacher, Key Life Network, author, 'Laughter and Lament: The Radical Freedom of Joy and Sorrow') Larry Dixon has done it again! As a well-trained and experienced theologian, he has taken truth and presented it in such a clear and winsome way that the man on the street can easily understand. Theologically, he puts the cookies on the lower shelf within reach of all of us. Larry's amazing sense of humor puts us readers at ease, but he never shrinks back from talking about things that may be difficult and hard for some of us to hear. In a very real sense, this book is a buy-one-get-one: not only does it artfully articulate many of the blessings that we believers have in Christ, but it also helps us know how to translate those blessings into meaningful witnessing conversations with the non-Christian Mikes in our lives. And yes, I have some Mikes in my life for whom I am burdened, and this book is definitely helping me reach out to them more effectively. Larry's writing is both doctrinal and practical; it's convicting and encouraging. If you're like me, you won't be able to wait and read only one chapter per week; you'll want to read the whole book much more quickly than that because of its edifying and equipping contents. -- George W. Murray (Former President & Chancellor of Columbia International University, Columbia, South Carolina) Larry Dixon presents us with a book that is easy and entertaining to read. It has a theological depth that belies its folksy feel. Each chapter is liberally graced with scriptural references that provide a sound basis for the many blessings presented. Filled with many little anecdotes, Larry's writings constantly refer to the text of scripture as a basis for the many blessings. Larry's book is based on sound biblical principles and careful use of the text of scripture. -- Philip Boom (President of Emmaus Bible College, Dubuque, Iowa) Retired theology professor Larry Dixon has written a helpful book that is sure to encourage believers in Christ. He includes fifty-two short Blessings that Christians may have forgotten. He follows them up with Action Steps that help us put the truth to work in our lives. Noteworthy is the author's heart for the lost which comes through on every page. Here is good book to use for devotions that will stimulate the head, heart, and hands and feet! -- Robert A. Peterson (Theologian, editor, and co-author, 'Jesus In Prophecy: How Christ's Life Fulfills Biblical Predictions') One of the things I love most about Larry Dixon's books is they are supremely practical. He takes Scripture and theological concepts and presents them is ways that anyone can understand. His most recent work is yet another example. I am a senior pastor and I'm often asked about resources for small groups. This book now makes my list of recommendations. At the end of every chapter are actions steps. As I read through them I thought, these are great exercises for spiritual growth. Those who read this book will enjoy meeting Mike, and be challenged by the faith lessons Dr. Dixon shares through his friend. The readings are short, which is great for people like me with a short attention span. However, the content is theologically rich. Prepare to be Bless-ed! -- Jeff Philpott (Sandhills Community Church, Columbia, South Carolina) This book will give you joy in your faith and, at the same time, give you a passion to see others get the t-shirt and to join you in the dance. -- Steve Brown (Founder and Bible Teacher, Key Life Network, author, 'Laughter and Lament: The Radical Freedom of Joy and Sorrow') Using profound quotes, gentle humor, extensive biblical passages, along with recommended readings and suggestions for prayer, these readings will not only be a strong reminder of what we have, but if lived out will make your Christianity contagious to those without Christ. -- Allan McKechnie (Professor Emeritus Columbia International University, Columbia, South Carolina) Filled with many little anecdotes, Larry's writings constantly refer to the text of scripture as a basis for the many blessings.
