He is internationally recognised as one of the UK's leading photographers and his work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the world. His first book, 'For Most Of It I Have No Words: Genocide, Landscape, Memory' about the places where there have been genocides, was published in 1998 by Dewi Lewis Publishing. His last book 'Afghanistan: chronotopia' won the 2002 European Publishers' Award for Photography. Winner of the 2002 European Publishers? Award for Photography, Simon Norfolk won the Olivier Rebbot Award (Foreign Press Association of America) in 2003 and was shortlisted for the CitiBank Prize. In 2004, he received a prestigious International Centre of Photography Infinity Award and the Terence Donovan Award from the Royal Photographic Society.
