She also raised funds for the homeless and was an early volunteer for Crisis. In addition, she established a Well Women Clinic for local women and was supported by Fay Weldon, the well-known author. She returned to full-time education as a mature student and was awarded a BA Hon in Intellectual History from Sussex University and became a Master of Letters after studying at Bristol University. Brenda shares her home with Naughty, a rescue cat who rules the household. He expects to be waited on hand and foot by all family members.
