Author Information

Married at 18 into an influential and wealthy family, Kamal thought she was going to be a princess. Instead, she was subjected to daily abuse which later turned into torture. For over 12 years, her husband routinely beat her, taunted her, assaulted her, breaking several bones, and made her his slave. What was meant to silence her instead gave her a voice, as she has become an outspoken advocate on violence. She shares her story across Canada and the US on what it is like to be a victim and a survivor while keeping the family's honor intact. She helps train law enforcement professionals, mental and medical health care providers and other front line workers. She is an award winning speaker and an author on the topic of domestic violence. Kamal has been the recipient of several awards: - British Columbia Medal of Good Citizenship Award 2016 - British Columbia Achievements Award 2016 - Woman of the Year Award 2013 - YWCA Woman of Distinction Award 2013 - Courage to Come Back Award 2012 - Community Leader Award 2012 - Certificate of Merit 1995 Kamal is a mother of four grown children and a grandmother of four young children. She has been described as an individual with the powerhouse ability to encourage men, women and young adults. She continues to be a voice for the voiceless.
