OverviewIn a war where brother is against brother, one young woman will fight for her family- no matter the cost. When her mother leaves to care for the wounded, and with her father and older brother away fighting in the Confederate army, Jo McKenzie is left to provide for and protect what remains of her family at home. But after her youngest brother is conscripted, Jo must take matters into her own hands and make an impossible choice- collaborate with the Confederate deserter, James Avery, or watch her last brother join the Rebel cause. Her decision will take her farther than she ever wished to go as she struggles to keep her family together, forcing her to confront long-buried family tragedies and the haunting memories she thought she'd left behind- and lead her to realize that things are not always what we judge them to be. As the war between brothers wears on and a Union sympathizer is revealed, Jo must trust that God will provide- as well as protect- her family, and decide if she is willing to speak up and consequently put her family at risk of danger- or remain silent. In the wake of a Rebel victory, Jo must finally learn to let go of the past while still allowing it to guide the course of her future, as well as find that redemption is not earned, but freely given.
