Overview

A feel-good dog story. ""A sea of killer mines lies in wait under the Afghan desert. In Kandahar, every car could be a bomb; every human your killer. The only shield between you and your death is me, Corporal K-9 Butter. Day after scorching day, I scoured the desert, hunting for the evil. But it only took one bullet...."" ""Jones'... K-9 Heroes series... is a lovely tribute to the brave canine officers in the military."" Kirkus Reviews.

I love dogs, and dog training. In particular, I greatly enjoy the power, passion and precision of a dog and trainer team executing. The writing was excellent. I could see, and almost feel all the characters, places and actions. WICKED awesome! I always knew my dogs were speaking to me; but I thought it was JUST me. I just loved the first book in the series, the story of Guinness, the German Shepherd K9, sent to work in Kandahar as an IED detecting officer. Her story was very moving. This is the second book, the story of Butter, a yellow Labrador, who was already deployed in Kandahar when Guinness arrives and is shot while out on duty. I'm not ashamed to say I cried halfway through, but Butter, in spite of everything she suffers, finds herself useful again, teaches her handler how to be a better man and her life takes on new meaning. I'm looking forward to reading about Viper, the Belgian Malinois who is the longest serving K9 . He is devoted to his job but misses his two friends. I can't wait to read his story, the third in this series. These are such a great series of books! Each is better than the last and I can't wait to get another. This is what dogs think and feel? I bet!

Author Information

Rada was born in Transylvania, ten miles away from Dracula's Castle. Growing up between communists and vampires taught her that humans are fickle, but one can always rely on dogs and books. After she immigrated to join her husband, she went to medical school, then worked in the ER for years, but she still speaks like Dracula's cousin. Her thrillers feature Dr. Emma Steele, a not-so-young ER doc with a moody teenage daughter and a fondness for wine. If blood, gore and serial killers turn you on, check out OVERDOSE, MERCY, and POISON. If you're into dark medical humor, check her STAY AWAY FROM MY ER. But if you're into dogs, the K-9 Heroes series is for you. To celebrate Gypsy, Rada's beloved German Shepherd, Emma adopted a quirky, bacon-loving K-9 named Guinness who runs her life through Mercy and Poison.Guinness's early story is BECOMING K-9: a bomb dog's memoir, Book 1 in the K-9 Heroes series. Book 2, BIONIC BUTTER: A three-Pawed K-9 Hero, is about a mellow Lab who looks for her life's new meaning after losing a paw in Afghanistan. Book 3, K-9 VIPER, is about a veteran Belgian Malinois who discover there's more to life than work. For updates, free content and more, check out RadaJones.com. She loves hearing from you.
