Drugs are natural or synthetic substances which when taken into a living body alter the body functioning and are used to treat or prevent a disease [157]. Drugs can be natural as well as synthetic depending on their source, however, the nature based drugs are preferred to synthetic ones. Nature has always been a source of various products having medicinal properties. The nature based products are generally preferred due to their better biocompatibility and non-toxicity compared to synthetic based sources. A single natural component may demonstrate various medicinal properties leading to an appropriate candidate for various ailments. One such multi-applicable drug of natural origin is curcumin, on which various investigations have been done and is continuing as a hot topic of research today.
