Overview

Mel isn't going anywhere - except to work every day. But when she offers the spare room in her apartment to her struggling brother, everything she loves and hates about wanting to live up to the expectations of her family becomes part of her every day again. It turns out that even as adults, living with your sibling brings back the dynamics of tween rivalries. As Mel tries to rebalance things with her brother, she navigates how to offer help to someone who doesn't want to need it. Renowned illustrator Ellice Weaver brings her crisp artwork to the graphic novel form in this powerful story of contemporary life.

Ellice Weaver's comics have such a unique and charming style that you can't help but be pulled in with each page. The colors feel fresh and the drawings look raw and alive. Something City is full of short, interconnected stories that are simultaneously hilarious and heartbreakingly real. . -- Tillie Walden One of the most eagerly awaited debuts of 2017, Something City is innovative, distinctive and the product of an artist with a singular creative vision. With its haunting evanescence, entrancing hues and Weaver's unique and charmingly idiosyncratic approach to the page, Something City is a stunning first offering. -- Broken Frontier Something City (2017) is an impressive debut, and an utterly engaging tale from start to finish whose visual style belies its emotional depth. Weaver is a clever and talented storyteller and illustrator with a unique perspective on modern living. Her ability to build a fully-realized world that feels authentic in its depiction of community living and its off-kilter nature in a few simple vignettes is incredible, and make Something City an irresistible tale that offers new visual details and emotional insights to enjoy with each subsequent read. -- Newsarama
