Overview

This is the Scottish Gaelic translation of Teddy Is Ready by Joanne MacDonald. A soft, fluffy, grey cat lives on the Campbells' farm in Centreville, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Teddy is always ready to help with the chores. He's starting seeds and pulling weeds, he's picking beans and chasing leaves. This book is a cute little love poem all about that silly kitty, Teddy! Charming watercolour illustrations by author Joanne MacDonald (Eòsag Dhòmhnallach) accompany the Gaelic text by Joyce MacDonald (Seoige NicDhòmhnall). This is a Scottish Gaelic children's book with non-GOC spelling. Gaelic book description: Tha cat clòimheach mìn a' fuireach air baile nan Caimbeulach ann an Centreville, Eilean Cheap Breatainn, Alba Nuadh. Tha e daonnan deiseil a bhith a' cuideachadh leis an obair. Cuiridh e sìolan agus tarraingidh e luibhean, buainidh e pònairean agus ruaigidh e duilleagan. 'S e luaidh dhan phiseag amaideach ghràdhach a tha anns an leabhar seo!

Author Information

Joanne MacDonald is an artist from Centreville, Inverness County, Cape Breton. She is a self-taught painter who also works as a helper at the Campbells' farm. Joyce MacDonald was born in Halifax and raised near Mabou, Cape Breton. She heard Gaelic among the older members of her family and community when she was young, and it made her sad that she couldn't understand the language of her own people. She started learning Gaelic in high school. Many people helped her learn along the way, especially her grandmother Jessie MacDonald and her kinfolk Mary and Vincent MacKinnon. She now works at the Gaelic College. She produced and directed the Gaelic short film ""Cùm Romhad"" [Keep Going].
