Biblical Parenting, A Child Psychiatrist's View is a guide to the Bible's wealth of instructions showing how parents can effectively rear children. God's Biblical instructions are consistent with much of modern child psychiatric thought. Although this book reflects Christian views, it should also be useful for non-Christian parents. Many child rearing instructions are found in the Old Testament, common to both the Jewish and Christian religions. The directions for child rearing given in the Bible, used by parents for thousands of years are sound, regardless of one's religious beliefs. The biblical account of the life of Jesus Christ, contained in the New Testament, is the most famous biography ever written. Throughout the Bible, God tells parents to make their own lives comply with His Word, as they teach their children. However, God's instructions for parents are not grouped together conveniently in a particular book or chapter. This book is a guide to help parents locate and confirm the child rearing instructions found in the Bible.

Author Information
Dan Allen Myers, MD, Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association is a Board certified child psychiatrist in private practice in Dallas Texas. Dr. Myers founded the Myers Psychiatry Clinic in Dallas. The Clinic specializes in the treatment of children with mental and emotional problems. He personally has conducted over 70,000 child/parent interviews during his career. Dr. Myers, Associate Clinical Professor, served on the clinical faculty of the Department of Psychiatry, UT Southwestern Medical School for 30 years. He is past president of the Texas Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Myers, a late-in-life Christian, is a reserve Deacon at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas. He is the author of Golden Rules For Parenting, A Child Psychiatrist Discovers the Bible, published by Paulist Press in 1999. Dr. Myers has appeared on national TV, being interviewed on the Dan Rather Show, and USA Today. Dr. Myers is a University of Texas football letterman. He has directed a children's camp on a hacienda in Mexico, and has been on humanitarian trips to Cuba and Romania. He has run the Boston and New York Marathons, and is an avid golfer. Dr. Myers is married to Kathy, a successful Dallas real estate agent. They reside in Dallas and have six children and thirteen grandchildren.
