Overview

As I sit to write these words, I can't help but look back over more than five decades of ministry. Fifty-three years of preaching, pastoring, and helping people open the Word of God-not just to read it, but to encounter the living God who speaks through it. What I've learned along the way is simple but profound: the Bible isn't a book to be skimmed or studied like a textbook-it's a revelation meant to be lived. I often tell people that there are three kinds of readers of Scripture: the skimmers, the swimmers, and the divers. Skimmers stay on the surface, reading quickly but never going deep. Swimmers move with the current, enjoying the feel of the water but still staying where it's safe. But divers-divers go down deep. They discover treasures others never see. My prayer is that you, the reader of Bible Learning Basics 101, will become a diver in the Word of God. This manual begins at the beginning-Genesis chapters 1 through 3-because everything we need to understand about God, humanity, and redemption begins there. Creation reveals God's glory. The relationship reveals His purpose. And even in the Fall, we see the first glimpse of His redeeming grace. These chapters are not just history-they are the pattern for every story that follows, including yours and mine. I've written this book to help new readers-and even seasoned believers-approach the Bible with clarity, confidence, and joy. I hope that each chapter becomes a doorway to encounter God.
