ABOUT THE AUTHOR The Reverend William Brent, Jr., currently serves as Pastor of the First African Baptist Church of New Orleans. Organized in 1817 by thirty-two freed slaves and sixteen white citizens, it is the oldest church forpeople of color in the State of Louisiana. As a Pastor/Community Leader, Rev. Brent serves on the New Orleans Job Corps Public Relations Board and the Central City Housing Development Board. Chaplain of the Young Men Olympian Benevolent Organization, Inc. General Secretary of The Gatekeepers Ministerial Association. Former Instructor Homiletics at Union Baptist Theological Seminary, New Orleans, La. He is President of the Ethan A. Henry Foundation and General Coordinator of The Gate Keepers Ministerial Alliance. The Reverend William Brent, Jr., is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, and educated in the New Orleans Public School system. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology/Social Work from Dillard University at New Orleans; a Masters of Divinity Degree in Systematic Theology from Union Baptist Theological Seminary at New Orleans; and a Master of Social WorkDegree inDirect Services andAdministration Planning and Organization from Southern University at New Orleans. Reverend Brent served as President of the Men of SocialWork, NewOrleansChapter, duringhistenure asagraduate student. He was the recipient of the School of Social Work Service Award for two consecutive years and the Leadership Award his third year as a graduate student. Reverend Brent also received postgraduate fellowship to Clark Atlanta University.
