Elaine Miller Bond is a children's book author and wildlife photographer based in the Pacific Northwest. She is the author and photographer of BFFs! BLACK-FOOTED FERRETS: Love for One of North America's Most Endangered Mammals (True North Editions). And she is the author and photographer of WILD COLORS OF THE WEST, RUNNING WILD, and LIVING WILD (Heyday Books)-fun board books about wildlife and wild places. She wrote THE PUPFISH HERO: Who Found Bravery and Buckets . . . AND SAVED A SPECIES! (SierraForever) a picture book biography of courageous fishery biologist, Edwin ""Phil"" Pister.Bond photographed the scientific book, THE UTAH PRAIRIE DOG (University of Utah Press), by Dr. Theodore Manno and wrote the foreword to his second book, SWAMP RAT (The University Press of Mississippi). Her photographs have appeared on Discovery Channel Canada, and publishing credits include Science, Scholastic, NPR online, BBC Earth News, The American Naturalist, The Washington Post, Bay Nature Magazine, and scientific and popular books.She earned her Master of Philosophy degree in Environment and Development from the University of Cambridge in England and her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Physical Geography from the University of California at Berkeley.Bond began her career as Senior Science Writer for the University of California Natural Reserve System, where, in addition to writing periodicals and other environmental publications, she wrote grants for, developed, and coordinated a field-based program for at-risk high school students, which motivated some to study ecology and pursue higher education.
