This book began as a question that troubled me for years: Why, despite decades of policy and billions of pounds spent, do drug harms in the United Kingdom continue to rise? Not just rise - but in some places, surge to levels unseen anywhere else in Europe. I wrote this book for the families who lost loved ones, the people silently struggling with dependence, the clinicians and frontline workers who know too well the limits of fear-based policy, and the young people who deserve the truth, not scare tactics. The War on Drugs in the UK has created not safety, but stigma; not healing, but punishment; not protection, but tragedy. This book is an invitation to replace ignorance with evidence, fear with compassion, and outmoded policy with scientific honesty. My aim is not to romanticise drug use. It is to demystify it, humanise it, and to argue - on the strongest possible evidence - that the current approach to drugs has failed and must change. This is not just a policy critique.
