Beyond the Walls is simple enough for anyone to understand, but it will also challenge the thinking of psyclologist and counselors. (Dwight Allen, Pastor of The Anchor Church, Calahan, FL.) Dr. Sweet's work develops a pathway beyond the pain. Inner healing is possible for everyone. (Tommy Roberts, Restoration International Outreach - RIO Central, Maryville, TN) Beyond the Walls is a book that touches at core of hurt and trauma in children and in adults. Dr. John Sweet does a great job in illustrating how hurt people hurt people and how we can push back darkness in a hurting world and arena of generational trauma (children in care with trauma, adults with hurt and pain) with the light of hope, if we learn how to heal and pull that stinger out! I love when he says healing is most often gradual but relentless as mercy and grace push out to expand the world of those who once cowered behind the wall. The voices of past pain persist, but the call of parakaleo (encouragement) will not yield Dr. Sweet through research and scripture illustrates how we can, and must be the voices of encouragement, hope and light in the lives of those hurting and in their darkest times! As we heal, we must help others become whole and heal as well. This is a great resource, for clinicians, pastors, foster parents, lay persons and all. As a colleague and minister I highly recommend this book. (Joshua Sarmiento, LMCH Ignite Christian Counseling, Ocala, FL)
