OverviewBetween 1980 and 1990, the former Belvédère gravel- and loess pit was given specific attention due to the discovery of in situ Middle Palaeolithic artefacts and faunal remains, in the Saalian and Weichselian strata. These discoveries led to further, systematic excavation of the site by Leiden University, resulting in the documentation of a number of areas where Middle Palaeolithic foragers discarded their flint tools. This book is an examination by one of the original excavators (1985 onwards) of the site, which looks at spatial patterning of the flint material and examines what the site can tell us about the Middle Palaeolithic in this area.
